![]() Passive heat integration option calls for increasing the process to process heat exchanger area in the HDS and Main Fractionation Units by 3426 square feet. These savings represent about 41% reduction of current energy consumption in the chemical industry. This report summarizes the results of a study sponsored by US DOE Office of Industrial Programs titled Advanced Heat Pump Application and Evaluation.'' Two energy conservation retrofit options as described below, are identified with a combined total savings of about $245,000/year giving a payback period of 1.3 years. The authors conclude that the facility is not suitable for an in-depth study. The company did not have an organized industrial-hygiene program. There was no established formalized respirator program. Employees received on-the-job safety training only. Employees received periodical physical examinations however, pre-employment physicals were not required. No 1,3-butadiene was detected in bulk samples of styrene/butadiene and polybutadiene resins. No detectable concentrations of 1,3-butadiene were reported. Personal monitoring for 1,3-butadiene was limited to a single survey conducted by OSHA in more » the mid 1970s. Quality-control sampling was performed using vapor-phase gas chromatography. The quality control laboratory was equipped with exhaust hoods. Engineering controls consisted of equipping all pumps handling 1,3-butadiene with single or dual mechanical seals. The resin was produced by solution polymerization. Bulk samples of styrene/butadiene and polybutadiene resins were analyzed for residual 1,3-butadiene. The purpose of the survey was to evaluate exposure to 1,3-butadiene during the manufacture of homopolymer and copolymer liquid polybutadiene resins. ![]() « lessĪ walk-through survey was conducted at Colorado Chemical Specialties, Golden, Colorado in August, 1985. In a series of experiments conducted for the purpose, half lives of observed radioisotopes varied from 1 minute (/p = 3.53 for constant power level. The work reported herein was conducted in response to an ITER Task to demonstrate experimentally that pulsed and continous operations of a D-T neutron source lead, in general, to differing impacts on inventory of induced radioactivity, on one hand, and to verify calculational methods, on the other.
